Rebecca Sugar (Adventure Time) – Everything Stays (Chords and Tab)

Rebecca Sugar/Adventure Time – Everything Stays (Chords)

As you might have guessed from my Steven Universe post, I’m a big fan of Rebecca Sugar’s songs. And this is a new gem from the Adventure Time miniseries Stakes.

You might be unfamiliar with some of the chords in it. But don’t be intimidated. There’s nothing too difficult to play.

Suggested Strumming

You can use this as the main strum:

d – d u d –

Mix that up with a few chords where you just play one down strum per chord.

Picking Version

Rebecca Sugar – Everything Stays (Tab)

As she often does, Rebecca posted their ukulele demo of the song on Tumblr. I like it even more than the final version. There’s some lovely fingerpicking on it.

The tune uses the same basic chords as the final version except she’s tuned down half a step. But I prefer to keep it in standard tuning and play in the same key as the final version.

I pick it thumb and two finger style. Here’s how the intro looks slow then up to speed:

I’m really glad you wrote this up, because when I first heard the song it barely registered in my mind. Hearing it again, I see how lovely it is. Thanks!

Thank you so much for this!! I fell in love with this song the second I heard it, but all the other version I found online just didn’t sound right.

Happy New Year, Al. This is a great way to start the new uke year. Lovely little song. I agree , I really like the demo version & that’s what I’m working on. Is it me, or is there a little syncopation to it that makes it a bit tricky? It could entirely be me. I’m going to keep at it, though.

  9. Woodshed January 9th, 2016 12:24 pm

tooney: It is a bit tricky. She switches things up quite often. Which I had a bit of trouble keeping track of.

Thank you so much for this! I haven’t picked up my ukulele in awhile and this honestly made me fall in love again. What kind of strumming pattern would you suggest for the chorus?

  11. Woodshed January 12th, 2016 1:57 pm

    isabela: You’re very welcome! I’d use d – d u d – for the chorus as well.

Al: Thanks for confirming that, since I always assume it’s me.
I did keep at it, and got it, which is gratifying. I have to tune down a half step as in her demo.
What a lovely song. People like it. Thanks, and WELCOME BACK!

    tooney: Congratulations!

Thanks! It’s good to be back.

Thanks for posting this!! This is my favorite song right now and I’m so excited that I can actually play it now!
For the strumming version, on which chords would you recommend doing one down strum for? I’ve been doing the d d-u-d pattern until the last chord of each verse but I’m not sure if that’s right, and I don’t know which chords to do the one strum with in the chorus.
    Thanks again!

    Asia: Thanks!

That’s sounds good to me. I’d also do just one strum on “daily and nightly” and “everything stays” in the chorus.

I meant to congratulate you on the spot-on tab. The more I listened to her demo, the more impressed I was that you got it. This is one of those ‘deceptively simple’ songs. Well done, and many thanks. :-)

    Thanks very much, Tooney!

I don’t like Adventure Time, but this is a really beautiful song. I like the unusual chords and strumming pattern.

Thanks man, I’ve been trying to work out the picking for ages! Can never get it right but what you’ve done is rad. The link below is someone who’s worked their way through the songs from AT, maybe you should collaborate! It’d be cool to see you and your website shown on hers, the more people who know about ukulelehunt the better.

Okay. Maybe I’m sense but how the heck do you play that Ebo7 chord? Got a picture for the finger position? I just can’t figure it out.

  23. tjvonp August 4th, 2017 7:23 pm

Kristin: How I’d do it is

    1. Index finger: Bar across 2nd fret
    2. Middle finger: C string, 3rd fret
    3. Ring finger: A string, 3rd fret

I’ve got long, thin fingers though, so it might not work as well for someone with normal hands.¯\_(?)_/¯
