    Smashing idea! I blogged it.

  2. Adriana December 19th, 2012 7:32 pm

OMG I flunked most of the quiz :( the covers are amazing :D i discovered ukulele orchestras thanks to you :D thank you i love love love them.

  3. mictoboy December 19th, 2012 8:01 pm

26, but to be fair, a lot of the questions are very tenuously uke-related :D

  4. Bob December 19th, 2012 8:43 pm

26 right. That’s not my chord shape for #4, I had to do chord theory to verify what it was.

  5. cardboardfrog December 19th, 2012 9:37 pm

26 also, seeming like a popular score so i’m not complaining.
I missed #3 as i play that chord usually with a different fingering in the style most detested by newbie ukers.
The musician from number 8 appears to be warning against the perils of the mahalo flying v uke.

  6. Woodshed December 19th, 2012 9:47 pm

    Gary: That’s great! Thanks.

Adriana: I’m glad you enjoyed the music at least!

mictoboy: You got 26, what are you complaining about?!

Bob: I thought 5 was the much less common inversion.

    cbf: Well done!

  7. Dalton December 19th, 2012 10:14 pm

I got 15 right, which is better than last year so I’m improving

  8. Kempo December 20th, 2012 1:44 am

I took off 1/2 a point for getting very close with question 11 but then gave my self an extra half point for knowing who the man was in question 17 (it is Christmas), provided that’s fair then I got 27 (I’m sure this is getting much easier).

If only wish there were comments on the results page, that way we could include spoilers!

  9. Kiranuka December 20th, 2012 8:11 am

I got 11 right, but I did it off the email and the videos didn’t work, next time I’ll remember to come here. :)
Aside from those, I do think the quiz showed me what I need to work on… Notes, in particular, and chords in general, but I’ve only been playing uke (and instruments at all) for a couple months.

I learned a very large percentage of what I know so far from this site, and it was the one that sparked it all. I’m continually inspired and motivated by your posts and library and presentation…. I could go on, but really:
Thank you so much, Woodshed :)

  10. Meekynz December 20th, 2012 8:24 am

16 but i did it from email also and vids didnt work. Pretty chuffedcwith 16 tho. Kicking myself bout 5. I didnt look at the 4fr indication. Great quiz mate. Thanks

  11. Ashleyness December 20th, 2012 9:19 am

22/ 30. I seriously need to brush up on my chords/ theory. That and the brands were what got me. Not all that upset about the latter though. Awesome covers! I couldn’t remember who originally did Ra Ra Rasputin, but I did get The Smiths, who I’ve really just learned about over the past few years, so I was excited about that. :)
That was really fun Al! Thanks! And thanks for this sight, I probably would have given up on learning uke if I hadn’t found it. :)

  12. Ashleyness December 20th, 2012 9:20 am

    Or *site, I should say.

  13. ukuhippo December 20th, 2012 9:29 am

26, missed some lyrics and chords. Not bad for a basic strummer.

  14. Woodshed December 20th, 2012 10:51 am

    Dalton: Well done!

Kempo: That’s definitely worth the extra half point.

Kiranuka and Meekynz: Sorry, I should have added a warning.

    Ashleyness: Thanks so much!

ukuhippo: Welcome to the 26 club!

  15. Ivy Arch December 20th, 2012 1:02 pm

A pitiful 18. But loved Wellington International Ukulele Orchestra’s version of This Charming Man so much that I’m able to cope with my quiz failure.

  16. Sandra December 20th, 2012 5:56 pm

22! Obviously don’t know my uke makes well enough…and only got the Beatles and smiths in last section…great fun though, thanks woodshed!

  17. Ron Hale December 20th, 2012 10:17 pm

27, Al. But how about ‘super bonus extra credit’ points for giving chords two or three names?

Blew the Mahalo. Guessed Mya-Moe. Always get the two mixed up. Sorry Gordon/Char but you have to admit it can be confusing. Perhaps a more distinctive headstock is in order. Just a suggestion. And a free one at that.

Got Makala right. But, come on man, don’t you think expecting someone to come up with Dolphin is pushing things just a bit?

Thought pink Vs had reached the pinnacle of cool already. Was wrong. New angels are issued them on arrival in heaven and John King teaches them Bach. (No “Stairway to Heaven” allowed in heaven.)

Turisas do/did a nifty “Rasputin”. The West Corkers version sounds more like them than the original. Speaking of the WCs… Fans who missed their uke orch./gamelan group collaboration from early in the year should check it out.

Why no picture puzzles this year?

So now over to Ukulelia to ace this baby and impress the bloody hell out of Gary.

  18. Sharon December 20th, 2012 10:40 pm

    22 – was pleasantly surprised

  19. s2art December 21st, 2012 12:16 am

21 which I’m happy with as a newbie to music. Got mostly chords and notes wrong, as I would expect. Had to get no. 18 right, it’s what I “play” (sparkly black, too).

    Thanks, Woodshed, and Merry Christmas.

  20. Allan December 21st, 2012 8:58 am

24 – rushed #4 & #5 and worked them out from the pics, if I’d picked up my uke 1st I think I would have got them right. s’funny when you have to think about what you’re playing it actually makes it more difficult. Excellent covers – would never have got #29 if the singer hadn’t sounded so much like ‘him’ – have to say I was never a fan of that ‘group’, (no spoilers here lol!)
Great web-site Al – your blogs always brighten up the day!

  21. Woodshed December 21st, 2012 10:17 am

Ron: Yes, the Mahalo one was a particularly tough question.

    Sharon: Well done!

s2art: Merry Christmas to you too!

    Allan: Thanks so much!

  22. Woodshed December 21st, 2012 10:17 am

Ivy: 18 isn’t bad at all!

    Sandra: Glad you enjoyed it.

  23. Barry Maz December 23rd, 2012 12:13 pm

    Great idea Al

  24. Woodshed December 24th, 2012 12:20 pm

    Barry: Thanks very much!

  25. kaizersoza December 29th, 2012 2:41 am

24 could have been better, good fun though thanx woodshed

  26. Woodshed December 29th, 2012 11:35 am

    kaizersoza: Glad you enjoyed it!

  27. banter January 8th, 2013 8:58 pm

Thanks for the test, it is great. I got 15 right (13 a year ago).

  28. Woodshed January 9th, 2013 10:30 am

    banter: Congrats on getting smarter!

  29. L.Bo Marie January 15th, 2013 2:49 pm

hooray! Getting better every year. 17! Now if I could just be bothered to learn band names ….

  30. Woodshed January 16th, 2013 8:43 am

L.Bo: You’ll be getting full marks in no time.

  31. L.Bo Marie January 20th, 2013 4:31 am

meh. who are we kidding? I’m never going to learn band names. Did we get Apocalypsed? I’m actually back to being online and need a ukehunt fix.

  32. Woodshed January 20th, 2013 8:47 am

    L.Bo: Still a bit of a wait, I’m afraid.
