Daft Punk – Get Lucky (Chords)

Daft Punk – Get Lucky

I was humming and hawing over whether to write Get Lucky up until I heard Will Grove-White’s awesome ukulele version. Both versions are in the same key so you can use these chords to play along with either.

Suggested Strumming

Nile Rodgers’s funky rhythm part really makes the song. There’s a lot of variation in the strumming but I like to keep a constant semiquaver strum and mute most of the strums.

Here’s the basis of the strum I use with the muted strums as Xs:

GetLuckyStrum

Here it is played at half speed:

Strum Slow

And up to speed:

Strum Fast

Once you’ve got it under your fingers try out a few variations.

Twiddly Bits

GetLuckySolo

The little solo at the end is very tricky to play up to speed. Here’s my best crack at it.

I just heard this song today and became a little obsessed with it. Something about it makes me listen to it more. I was very excited to see you came up with some chords for it. This will give me a good challenge. Thanks and keep up the good work:)

    Oh gosh, its an E….

  3. Woodshed June 12th, 2013 7:41 am

    Dalton: Good luck with it!

Karla: Yeah, but a different E.

Aha! Pretty much everyone on YouTube etc is playing these chords at first position which doesn’t sound as right as your way. Got any tips for the fingering on that f sharp minor? It might be bacause I am trying to play with my left arm in a sling, but I’m tripping up on that one a bit.

  5. Woodshed June 12th, 2013 7:47 pm

Milko: I keep a barre on all the frets for all the chords. I find it easier to switch between them that way.

    Get well soon!

Not a big fan of the song in its original form, but chuck a ukulele in there and its almost bearable. Thanks, a good one to try some new chords.

s2art: I love both versions of the song to bits at the moment.

It’s got that 70’s Michael Jackson feel. very nice

  9. Woodshed June 14th, 2013 8:26 pm

seamus: Even more so when you pitch it up a bit.

I know you have some other Nile rogers riffs, but I can’t remember which. Can you help?

    Thanks

How do you chunk on the upstroke?

  16. Woodshed June 24th, 2013 6:41 am

Daniela: They’re not chnks. They’re muted with the fretting hand.

Woodshed, that f#m chord is super hard to play. I think my hands might be a bit small. I’m barring the fourth fret, and have my middle finger in the 5th. I’m having trouble squeezing both my ring and pinky finger in the 6th fret, any tips?

  18. Woodshed July 7th, 2013 2:17 pm

Diezmo: You could try a different version of F#m. 2120 is the easiest. Or there’s 2124 or 6999

I am finding it very tricky to mute the chords for the funky rhythm. What are you doing to get it so good, and do you have any tips?

  20. Shara August 16th, 2013 11:20 pm

Hey, these chords and tabs you’ve done are all fab! they’ve all been so helpful!! I’ve not found anywhere to put suggestions for more tabs but I would really like to learn the Hannah Peel version of Tainted love on the uke. Unfortunately I can’t find it anywhere. I think it would sound great on the ukulele and would love it if you could put it on this website? sorry if I’m being rude here, I don’t know where else I should write it. thanks, shara.

How to muted with the fretting hand? Any tips?

  22. Woodshed November 3rd, 2013 9:52 pm

Nicholas: In this case all the strings are fretted so you can just relax your fretting hand for the muted strums. So your fingers are still touching the strings but not pressing them down.

I think this is a dumb question, but I’m a total newbie/self-taught, so what is the difference between the capitalized D (downstrum) and lowercase d? And same with the upstrums…are those strums just louder/more emphasized? Thanks!

  24. Woodshed November 21st, 2013 8:44 am

Kat: Not a dumb question at all. You’re correct. The capital D is a stronger/emphasised strum.
