Bosko and Honey Auctions, Ko’olau CE1: Ukulele Window Shopping

October 30, 2009

Bosko and Honey are auctioning off ukuleles to raise funds for their Safari. First up is a Kiwaya KC-4.

The solid body Ko’olau CE-1 is a very nice piece of work.

Broken Lanikai LU-21TE. Asking price: $95,000. If you’re thinking of buying it, I have some magic beans you might be interested in.

I can’t begin to imagine how it’s possible to play one comfortably, but that’s not going to stop me wanting a Harmony Aero ukulele.

A pair of Lyon & Healy 5Ks.

What do ukulele players like to eat? Rose Turle Ertler has answers from James Hill, Cat Green Bike, Jen Kwok and many others.

Voting has started for Bosko and Honey’s Join the Safari Contest. The process of selecting a winner is closely modelled on that of the election of the Doge of Venice; I think you vote for one video from each country and then your overall favourite. Those favourites and possibly others go through to various rounds of judging by Safari participants, sponsers and relatives. Then the winner is paraded round Piazza San Marco on Easter Monday.

Help Victoria Vox record her new album and get yourself mp3s, a house concert or a chance to chat her up depending on how much you’re willing to donate.

Uke, Ubu, Uke! is a new uke blog that already has some cool posts.

The New Zealanders didn’t manage to break the mass-ukulele record. But they did have Bret McKenzie. His opinion: “It looked better than it sounded.” Keep fighting those New Zealand jibes, guys.

Mark Nelson has put up tab for Moana Chimes on Uker Tabs.

Ukulele zeitgeist on the wane according to The Guardian (via Mr D).

Roger Daltry: “Is it worth tuning it?” And Steven Tyler plays Little Grass Shack for Oprah.

Mike DaSilva has some interesting things to say about ukulele tone.

Ukulelezo won last year’s Bushman Contest. Yes, it definitely happened. And anyone who tells you a cover of Mmmbop won is obviously joking.

The Leisure Society are looking for an army of ukulele players to join them on stage in London.

Sheena Beaston has an interview with and track from Via Tania.

Ukulele pin-up of the week: Sari (a slight misunderstanding of the roots of the ukulele but who cares?).

It’s your last chance to sponsor my part in the ukulele world record attempt before the big day. And if you’re going to be at the London Uke Festival come up and say hi – I’ll be the only person in a Ukulele Hunt t-shirt (like this one).

It’s obviously uke festival season as the Vicenza Ukulele Festival is next weekend and includes Veronica Sbergia, Aaron Keim, Uke Box and many more.

New classical ukulele tab site from Jamie Holding (who you may know as Blake12000).

Bosko and Honey are going to be doing an Oz Ukulele Safari. And they’ll be joined by Seeso and another mystery guest.

New album from Minor Constellations which you can download for free. Geoffrey Richardson, of the Penguin Cafe Orchestra, has put a beautiful uke tune up on his MySpace (thanks to Paul).

New ukulele print from Amy Crehore.

Kathy Clugston has been uking it up on the radio again. This time with Roland Taylor (who is producing the Ukulele Orhcestra of Great Britain’s Proms performance). You can listen to it here – starting around 8:30.

How to solve sexual frustration – play the ukulele (Not a site you want your boss to see you on).

Moral of the story #1: Don’t lend anyone your ukulele. Moral of the story #2: Kids are reading too much Twilight.

Does anyone ever put peanut butter in their ukulele?

Christmas Ukulele: Winter Wonderland (Chords)

December 11, 2008

Winter Wonderland (Chords)(PDF)

Another Christmas song with no reference to Christmas in it but I loved the version by keonepax with Bosko and Honey I had to write it up.

In the chord chart I’ve shown the chord inversions that keonepax is playing, but it’s great to mix them up with other inversions. Here are a few possibilities.

In the solo Bosko is using quite a few sixths:

And finishes of with a cool little variation on the Hawaiian turnaround. Here’s my take on the same idea:
