Sophie Madeleine – Take Your Love With Me (The Ukulele Song) (Chords)

Sophie Madeleine – The Ukulele Song (Chords)

Sophie Madeleine might have hit it big with The Beard Song, but I think this song is a really impressive piece of songwriting. There are quite a few ukulele songs around that could have been written on any instrument. But I think this one could only have come out of a ukulele.

There are a lot of traditional ukulele touches in the chord progression: the move from C to E7 (familiar from Five Foot Two), the use of diminished chords, the I7 chord (both of which are classic George Formby tricks). But it doesn’t sound dated and kitsch at all.

  3. Kelsi May 13th, 2009 12:17 am

How do you play the Bbdim chord? I think you might have missed it from the top of the page!

  4. Christina May 13th, 2009 1:50 am

Welcome back! I didn’t realize how addicted I was to this website until you left for a little while. I guess it’s time I thanked you for your hard work, so thanks!

  5. Woodshed May 13th, 2009 6:52 am

    Paul: Thanks.

    Chris: Try d u d u (bold indicates emphasis).

Kelsi: Oops. Bbdim is the same as Edim. Thanks for letting me know.

Christina: Thanks, Christina. It’s good to be back.

It’s obviously working for some people, but I get a 404 when I try to download the PDF. :(

  7. Woodshed May 13th, 2009 9:22 am

    David: Try it now.

  9. Marcelo May 13th, 2009 12:29 pm

Great! I was wanting for this one! Thank you, Woodshed! (How about more chords of songs by Sophie, like, for instance, I can’t hel myself?).

Loved this song and can’t wait to learn it. Thanks so much!

The lyrics remind me of that wonderful song by Cliff Edwards, “If I had you”; the beginning is almost a naïf paraphrase of Edwards’ refrain:
    «I could climb a snow-capped mountain,
    sail the mighty ocean wide,
I could cross the burning desert
if I had you by my side»

  13. Stephen Hait May 13th, 2009 6:56 pm

Thanks for these chords. Great song and I appreciate you taking the time to put this together!

  14. Woodshed May 13th, 2009 10:23 pm

fuzzytnth3: I liked it so much I paid more than necessary for it.

Marcelo: I might do The Stars at some point.

    Beth: You’re very welcome.

Alvaro: Good point. Definitely a similar lyrical theme.

That tune just yanked my heart out and replaced it with kittens and gumdrops. Wow.

Hello there, I am a newbie, but I just wanted to say thanks so much for your website and introducing me to Sophie’s music. I am trying to teach myself how to play and I find in the absence of a teacher your website has been most helpful. Thanks so much.

  17. Byjimini May 23rd, 2009 8:53 pm

I haven’t listened much to Sophie’s stuff since I bought this very album, but my word this song is catchy.

Just one thing Woody – is that edim right? I couldn’t get it to sound right and looking through my chords sheets it says that your variation is the e(flat)dim – edim on mine is simply A string 1st fret and C string 1st fret.

It’s no matter, because I was struggling to finger it anyhow and just play the second variation. it sounds near-enough for my liking. :)

  18. Woodshed May 24th, 2009 9:58 am

Byjimini: I’m pretty sure the Edim is correct. It’s definitely an Edim (Ebdim would be 2323). But 0101 is and Edim chord as well. 0101 and 3434 both have exactly the same notes in.

  19. Byjimini May 24th, 2009 11:29 am

    Huzza! ^_^

  20. Emily July 7th, 2009 9:38 am

Adding another request for chords to The Stars :) Have been trying to figure it out forever but am having no luck.

  21. Woodshed July 7th, 2009 5:50 pm

Emily: I think there’s a good chance it’ll happen at some point.

  22. Emily Reeve October 12th, 2009 3:29 am

Ummmm…I think I’m in love with her.
    Thanks, Al!

  23. Woodshed October 12th, 2009 7:25 am

Emily: I’m pretty sure you’re not the only one.

  27. Lea Maria March 8th, 2010 9:56 am

I can’t find the chords, lolfail. Can someone please write them down here? I really really really like this song ! (:

  28. Woodshed March 8th, 2010 10:00 am

Lea Maria: Click where it says ‘Click here to download Sophie Madeleine – The Ukulele Song (Chords)” underneath the video.

  29. Mykaleen March 11th, 2010 10:15 pm

I kind of wish this vid was like the one for ‘You Are My Favorite’. It was really helpful..

  30. Mykaleen March 11th, 2010 10:17 pm

..And Im still confused about how the strumming goes lol. Any tips?

  31. Jackie April 30th, 2010 8:43 am

admittedly, i am also still a little confused about the strumming!

  32. Paris May 3rd, 2010 2:06 pm

Well I know this is totally off-topic, but can you map out the chords of ‘I Don’t Worry’ by Bess Rogers, too? I just love the song and I have been driving myself nuts trying to decipher the chords and whatnot. Thanks a lot! Looking forward to future chords and tabs. :) …and now I’m gonna try this chord out.

  33. Paris May 3rd, 2010 2:07 pm

And also…what tuning is being used for this song? The standard GCEA?

  34. Maria June 24th, 2010 1:32 pm

    I CANT DOWNLOAD THE CHORDS ): help anyone? D;

  35. Woodshed June 26th, 2010 5:09 pm

Maria: Right click and select ‘Save Target As…’ or ‘Save File As…’ or words to that effect.

  36. Maria July 3rd, 2010 8:22 pm

@Woodshed: I cant open the file when I save it. the only thing that happens is internet explorer popping up and it asks me to ”save” or ”open”. I’ve tried both but it’s just like an evil circle !! ):

  37. Woodshed July 8th, 2010 9:07 pm

Maria: Do you have Adobe Reader installed?

  38. sallyannie August 5th, 2010 2:37 am

This is the first ukulele song that I learnt! I just wanted to say, you’re amazing! You put so much effort into every tab and chord and it really is super useful for beginners! It helped me to be much more motivated with playing and such :) Thanks!

  39. BenGev August 7th, 2010 4:40 am

Mr. Woodshed, I am adoring your website. I’m a guitar player recently addicted to the wonderful uke, and I am devouring your tabs.

In response to the strumming questions, I’m playing along with the MP3 and finding this works pretty well:

    ////////////////
    d Dud Dud Dududu

I’m doing little variations now and then, particularly towards the end of verses when she’s switching chords half way through the pattern, but that’s the basic structure that works for me.

  40. Woodshed August 10th, 2010 7:29 pm

BenGev: Thanks very much for your suggestion.

  41. Kerphuphul September 19th, 2010 4:23 pm

Madeleine, I’m in love with you.

  42. Nat Mackie September 28th, 2010 4:22 pm

    wow thanks
    such a classic ukulele song

  43. Woodshed October 2nd, 2010 10:33 pm

    Nat: A classical already?

  44. Luna April 29th, 2011 5:08 am

Can you describe the click? Is it d-d-u-u-d? or d-d-u-d-u?

I get stuck with the Over the Rainbow Click and can’t seem to get out of it unless I play the who song or a bruno mars.

  45. Emma May 8th, 2011 12:25 pm

what is the stumming pattern for this please?

  46. Woodshed May 15th, 2011 12:20 pm

Luna and Emma: You can just use:

    d u D U d u D U

  47. Gabriela July 13th, 2011 7:27 am

I found that a great strum was D dududududu
so that is 1 and 2 and 3 and 4 then go to the next chord
halfway through the verses she cuts it in half so it’s 1 and 2 (switch chord on this and) 3 and 4
D du udu this strum sounds nice on those faster chords
you should be able to easily tell when to switch if you listen to the song a couple of times
    Hope this helps.

  48. Woodshed July 14th, 2011 7:01 am

Gabriela: Yep, that would work. Best to emphasies some of the strums like this:

    d u D U d u D U

Otherwise the down-ups get a bit boring.

  49. hongok1979 September 13th, 2011 5:44 pm

    I love you

  50. Woodshed September 16th, 2011 8:10 pm

    hongok1979: I love me too.

  51. John Birsner September 18th, 2011 12:32 am

What a sweet little tune! Thank you for putting the chords up. Have learned so much from your blog. I hear Sophie’s coming to the USA; fat chance she’ll make it to the Antelope Valley. Cheers, John, High Desert Ukulele Club

  52. Katrina March 13th, 2012 1:20 am

I am having some trouble with the fingering. This tab doesn’t have your usual suggestions for which fingers to use on which strings for the chords. Any help?

  53. Katrina March 13th, 2012 1:32 am

    Nevermind. I couldn’t wait and I’ve figured it out! : )

  54. Mike June 9th, 2012 5:50 pm

Thanks for the chords but, because i am new to the uke I am slightly confused. In some of your sheets F is played 2010 but others its 2013 which is correct and towards the end there is a Dmajor instead of Dminor is this a mistake or is that how it is supposed to be because you didn’t put the dmajor chord on the sheet?

  55. Simon July 12th, 2012 10:55 am

Does anyone have an easier way of playing Adim? The fingering is horrible!

  56. Bob December 27th, 2012 12:21 pm

Many thanks for this. My first attempt at a uke song with my new uke. I’ve almost got it. In the middle section you’ve got a D chord, but its not listed at the top, am I being thick, or has no one else spotted this??

    Bob

  57. Bob December 27th, 2012 12:42 pm

Yes, D major is the right chord, but missing from top of sheet. 2220 works for me for anyone who’s still wondering Thanks for putting this up, I can now play my first uke song.

  58. Woodshed December 27th, 2012 9:25 pm

    Bob: Yep, that’ll do it.
