Garfunkel and Oates – Present Face (Chords and Tab)

Garfunkel and Oates – Present Face (Chords)

I’ve been patiently waiting to put this one up since seeing this video starring ‘thingamy off of Heroes‘ and ‘was he the one who was in My Name Is Earl once?’ I don’t know why they uploaded in January. Anyhoo, eleven months later it’s finally December and I can post it without it seeming a bit weird.

Twiddly Bit

For the intro you’re using the same chords as the song and hitting the E and A strings with an up strum with your index finger and the down strums on the g and C strings with your thumb.

Suggested Strumming

For most of the song she’s using that same picking pattern. But if you want to keep it simple just a down, up, down, up… strum will see you through fine.

You can download this song free on their website.

I’m pretty sure everyone’s had present face before. I tend to get it when I receive fabulous gifts such as candles and body wash. And photo albums. Everyone loves giving me photo albums.

…I’m expecting the present face when me and the Uke serenade the family with xmas classics on the big day…Ahhh my miniscule talent, the gift that just keeps giving…

Ooooohhh!!! I’m so excited about this one, thank you so much (no present face to you on this one)!!
I’ve only started with the ukulele, so I only know a few chords, but I’m quite determined to learn this song, so that’ll be the perfect excuse to get onto new chords…

Sorry, me again… just wondering, so far I’ve learned the F chord with only 2 fingers, is this one a different one? There’s the extra finger doing something at the bottom (must be a better way to put it, don’t know my string names yet!), on the third fret…?

Kelsie: Present face time = when my Mum gives me any sort of garment.

Nick: Just wait until everyone has had to much wine to care.

Pomme: It’s a different way of playing the same chord. You can play it the way you’re used to and it’ll sound just fine.

This is one of my all time favorite Garfunkel and Oates songs, and, with everyone asking me if I know any holiday music, it’s perfect timing!

Just a note on the lyrics, I believe it’s: “if Jesus couldn’t hide it from his omnipresent *place*” instead of face, but I may be wrong.

Thanks for posting the chords. They sound great, and I’m apparently better at getting to a Dm than I thought.

live2tivo: Thanks, you’re probably right. I’m better at hearing music than I am at hearing words.

There are a number of books out about misheard lyrics, the
main one for pop/rock being Gavin Edwards, ‘Scuse Me While I Kiss
This Guy, including such as –

The ants are my friends, they’re blowin’ in the wind, and
The girl with colitis goes by.

This was the first one that came out, I believe. A bit of a fad for misheard lyrics resulted, other books followed, until eventually
the purported mishearings (not a real word, I know) were so far-fetched, it was obvious
that people were just making things up. The fad fizzled…

Edwards did write a Christmas version which people can
look into to spice-up their seasonal songs.
